Winter Skin Care Tips
Simple and Easy Ways to Keep Skin Looking Beautiful and Healthy
Winter is a season filled with fluffy white snow, glittering icicles and cool crisp air. A time spent warming our feet by the fire, drinking oodles of sweet hot cocoa and building a snowman with the kids!
I know what you’re thinking, you’re thinking about wet slushy snow, shoveling driveways, power outages and slippery roads. Well, I like my description better!
One thing we can all agree on is the drastic change that occurs in our skin during the harsh winter months. We need to take extra care to protect and nourish delicate skin during the long winter season.
Here are some simple tips and tricks that will keep your skin glowing and have you saying (or singing) . . . “’tis the season!”
Switch from Hot to Warm Showers
Are you one of those people who love to step into the steaming hot shower, lather, rinse and repeat? Not because you are excessively dirty but because the hot water on your face and body is the most relaxing moment you’ve had all day? Yes, me too.
Alas, during the winter months, the hot water combined with the various soaps and shampoos contribute to dry flakey and sometimes itchy skin.
Try relaxing in a warm bath using natural soaps and essential oils instead. For a soothing bath experience try using Strawberries and Cream Soap Cake by Suds Muffin.
Exfoliate Your Skin
Exfoliate regularly to eliminate dead skin cells and to prep the skin for absorption of moisturizer. You can use an exfoliating system for your face and a dry brush for your body. Try the Exfoliating Papaya Facial Scrub or Orange Creme Sugar Scrub by Mountain Farms Soap.
Make Sure to Moisturize
When you step out of the bath or shower take time to moisturize your whole body – legs, arms, belly and back! Moisturize your face and neck using a moisture rich skin cream to replenish and rejuvenate. For soft and silky skin use Rich and Dreamy Face Cream, Golden Olive Face Serum or Blueberry Verbena Body Butter by TVAL
Face masks are beneficial to help keep the skin moisturized and refreshed. We recommend Sweet Delights’ Chocolate, Ginger and Cinnamon Mask. Available at Magic Tree Beauty.
Hands and feet can dry out quickly in the winter. For extra moisturizing treatment try slathering you hands and feet in cocoa butter or body butter and then cover with gloves and socks. Give yourself a manicure or pedicure to freshen up hands and feet. To freshen up the feet we recommend the Peppermint and Tee Tree Oil Foot Bath by Hemlock Hills.
Keep Those Lips Luscious
Use vaseline or lip balm several times a day to keep lips from drying out. For continuous protection from the elements, we recommend Earth to Body’s luxurious, Lip Softening Balm.
Use a Humidifier
Turning on the heat in the winter can zap all the moisture out of the air. Try using a humidifier when you are sleeping for added moisture.
Sunscreen is Important
Stepping outside into the frigid cold air requires a little planning. The sun’s reflective power is even stronger in winter when there is snow on the ground – so take care and use sunscreen. Don’t forget your scarf and sunglasses.
